First Tech Federal Credit Union Raises Over $700,000 to Support Children’s Hospitals

First Tech joined forces with credit unions and industry partners to support medical research and care for children and families in need

(SAN JOSE, Calif. and HILLSBORO, Ore.) – September 21, 2021 – First Tech Federal Credit Union, the nation’s eighth largest credit union, raised more than $700,000 dollars as part of its annual CreditUnions for Kids fundraising campaign, benefiting children and families served at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. All proceeds will go toward six regional children’s hospitals across California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington.

Credit Unions for Kids was founded 35 years ago by First Tech and other credit union partners in the Pacific Northwest to ensure children have access to the best care when they need it most. Each year, the collaborative effort has been a catalyst for change; funding life-saving research, innovative technology, and supportive care.

This year’s fundraising efforts spanned several months, with employees and vendors strengthening efforts to provide financial support and encouragement to their communities. First Tech employees set out with a goal to raise $100,000 and First Tech offered a special 2:1 match for its employees, in addition to its 1:1 match for credit union members and the community. First Tech’s vendors brought in over $550,000, helping exceed the campaign goal. All donations were facilitated through online banking, which was brought back for this year’s campaign in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Credit Unions for Kids campaign is a testament and cherished manifestation of our people helping people philosophy,” said First Tech Federal Credit Union President and CEO Greg Mitchell. “Through the generous contributions of our credit union community, vendors, partners, members, and employees, we were able to provide life-changing funds and critical resources for the thousands of children and families in need.”

First Tech’s Children’s Miracle Network hospital partners are renowned for their cutting-edge medical research, innovative therapies and treatments, and world-class care for children. Beneficiaries include:

  • OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (Portland, Oregon)
  • PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend (Eugene, Oregon)
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital (Seattle, Washington)
  • UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (Oakland, California)
  • UC Davis Children’s Hospital (Sacramento, California)
  • Children’s Hospital Colorado (Aurora, Colorado)

“We are proud to continue our partnership with First Tech through the Credit Unions for Kids campaign,” said Teri Nestel, President and CEO of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Each year, this campaign raises essential funds for children of all backgrounds and provides a terrific opportunity for credit unions to work together and demonstrate their shared commitment to social responsibility and collaborating for the greater good.”

The success of this year’s campaign was made possible through the participation and support of many organizations, including MasterCard, CO-OP Financial Services (and FIS), HappyMoney, CUNA Mutual Group, PSCU, CU Direct, Alkami Technology, Inc., Pega Systems, and The Standard.
