We're Watching Out for You

Security and Fraud Image

We want you to feel safe banking online with us. That's why we constantly evaluate and update the tools and technologies we use to protect you, your online account information and your digital transactions. We can't talk about them all here because then the fraudsters would know too, but here are a few examples of how we watch out for you.

24/7/365 Security Operations Center
Our security team maintains and monitors our security systems around the clock to ensure that your personal information is safe and secure. We protect our systems with firewall and intrusion protection that block unauthorized entry 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, except for leap years of course, which means we’ll be there on day 366 too.

Web Encryption
First Tech employs strong encryption for all of your online transactions. That means we turn your information into a coded sequence of billions of possible variations making it nearly impossible for unwanted intruders to decipher.

Fraud Protection
To safeguard your debit and credit card transactions, one of the tools that we've implemented here at First Tech is the Fraud Protection system. If we detect unusual activity on your accounts, we'll try to contact you via text, email and/or a phone call. If someone is using your account fraudulently, we can prevent additional activity from occurring. If we contact you, please take a moment to talk to our fraud investigator to verify your card activity. It’s important to note that if our security experts call or email you, they will NEVER ask for your full account number, PIN or 3-digit code; they already have that information. For your protection, never give that information to anyone who calls you on the phone or contacts you by email, no matter how legitimate the request may sound. However, if you are the one calling the Contact Center, we may ask you some security questions; we do this to verify your identity and prevent fraud.

Strong authentication for our online banking users
First Tech uses Entrust Authentication for members. In addition to our current security measures, as an Online Banking user, you will automatically enjoy an enhanced authentication process for your online transactions to help ensure that you and only you access your account. This security enhancement offers you more control over your Online Banking transactions. It also enables us to comply with Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) guidelines that require financial institutions to apply enhanced authentication procedures to online transactions. First Tech is committed to keeping your personal and financial information safe from misuse. To safeguard your debit and credit card transactions, we've also implemented the Falcon Fraud Detection system.

Email Alerts
First Tech also alert you by email anytime we receive a request to retrieve your username, reset your password, change your security preferences or contact information or perform a wire transfer. These alerts help keep you safe and notify you quickly if an important change is made to your information in Online Banking. Additionally, we may try to contact you via email if we identify credit card transactions that appear to be fraudulent. If you receive one of these notifications, please review it carefully and follow the instructions. If you are not certain whether the email is from First Tech, please call us at 855.855.8805 to learn more.

Routine Testing and Audits
First Tech undergoes multiple system and security audits every year to ensure we're providing you with a safe and secure online banking experience.

Secure Email from First Tech
Did you receive a secure email from First Tech?  As of April 23, 2018, we introduced a more intuitive secure email messaging system.

What does this mean for you?

Our new secure email messaging system features an intuitive interface, similar to leading webmail providers. In addition, all secure emails can be accessed in one browser window.

If you are receiving a secure email message from our new system for the first time,
you will receive an email with temporary login credentials from postmaster@firstechfed.com that will provide you a link to the new secure email messaging system.  We have created a document to guide you through your new secure messaging experience. Please click here to access the guide document.

How do I access past secure email messages (prior to 4/23/2018)?

You will still be able to open and download the .html files in secure messages sent prior to April 23, 2018, through the original email.

What happens if I was already corresponding with a First Tech employee using the legacy Secure Mail system?

In addition to the secure message notification from the First Tech employee, the first time you receive a message from the new system, you will also receive an email from postmaster@firsttechfed.com with your initial credentials. You will need to use these new credentials to log in to the new system and read the Secure Message.

What is the experience like for mobile users? Is a mobile application needed?

As the new system is entirely browser based, no specific mobile app (beyond a web browser) is needed.  In contrast to our previous system, there is no potentially large file download needed to read the message.
