Across seven emergency family shelters in King County, Mary’s Place keeps struggling families together, inside, and safe when they have no place else to go, providing resources, housing and employment services, community, and hope. Each day, Housing Specialists work with families to address barriers and empower parents to build family stability, secure housing, and prepare for employment.
Free Geek (Portland, OR) – Working to close the digital divide, and sustainably reuse technology to promote digital access for all.

This technology is made available at a low cost in The Free Geek Store, given to volunteers in exchange for community service, granted to community nonprofits, or provided to students through their Plug into Portland program.

Refer a Friend - Valley Verde
Valley Verde (San Jose, CA) – Promoting food security by creating micro-entrepreneurship opportunities, educational programs and gardening tools for low income communities.
The community of South Bay Area in the San Francisco area includes a large population of “working underprivileged,” 92% are immigrants of Latino and Asian origin. This group often lives in food desert communities, which lack access to fresh, organic vegetables.
Their urban agriculture model includes:
- Organic Gardening Classes and resources for setting home-based organic vegetable gardens
- Super Jardineros (Super Gardeners) program, that trains families to grow seedlings in backyard greenhouses, creating their own micro-enterprise and generating disposable income.
- The Finca - Urban Farm gathers the community around food, gardening and composting. It's here, in our own greenhouse where the multiethnic seedlings are grown for the families attending our programs as well as open sale.
